difficult Tide review – likable cost-effective British drama - The Guardian

This economical British drama shot in and round Margate – a couple of low-stage drug dealer (Nathanael Wiseman) compelled via circumstance to care for a young, all at once orphaned however adorably feisty little lady (Alexandra Newick) – hardly ever fails to set up a cliche. superstar Wiseman and his co-writing, co-directing affiliate Robert Osman line them up neatly: the protagonist with a childhood spent in foster homes, a morally bankrupt best friend, a baddie (Mem Ferda) who runs a flower shop, even a mentor father figure who works on the native boxing gymnasium. The kid even wears an inexpensive superhero costume, all of the stronger to take advantage of the irony of her powerlessness. however there are ample grace notes and felicitous bits of company to make this a fairly likable effort. Naturalistic performances and a way of location are the film's strongest suit, along with a brisk method to storytelling that propels things along to a predictable but no longer unsati sfying conclusion.
